Plant-Based Nutrition in Clinical Practice
For any and all health professionals: an evidence-based guide to the uses, benefits and practical application of a plant-based diet
The book draws on the University of Winchester’s Plant-based nutrition course―the first university-based course in the UK on plant-based nutrition―taking both an holistic and a systems-based (heart, respiratory system, diabetes, kidneys, liver, gut) approach.
The course is led by Shireen Kassam with contributions from most of the chapter authors, all of whom are internationally recognized for their work with plant-based nutrition. Each chapter is backed up by 50+ key references.

A well-needed evidence-back book to improve your quality of life
Plant-Based Nutrition in Clinical Practice is the book we’ve all been needing. As a public health professional, I needed an evidence-based manual about the benefits of Plant-Based nutrition to prevent (and even revert) chronic conditions, as well as for women’s health and the improvement of performance in athletes, among other topics. I consult this book when preparing for my classes or meeting with my clients. The book is also highly recommended for the broad public. The authors of the different chapters are outstanding professionals who have made a great effort to synthesize in a didactic way complex topics. This book is a staple for anyone who wants to improve their quality of life and longevity.Dr. Yolanda Serra Martinez

A brilliant clinical resource that will stand the test of time
This textbook is absolutely fantastic and sorely needed. With so many expect authors, all hugely respected in their field, it is remarkably consistent in terms of tone of voice and style and as a result, a real pleasure to read. It leaves no stone unturned when it comes to plant-based nutrition – from GI conditions to weight management to cancer. I also loved the chapter on behaviour change and some of the common barriers to adopting a plant-based diet. I am 100% sure I will be dipping into it regularly as a reference point while working with my clients – I’ve been waiting for a resource like this!

Must read!
Brilliant and concise! Every primary care provider must read this book so that we can truly provide ‘healthcare’ rather than the sickcare. Preventative care begins with lifestyle medicine and Drs. Kasam have compiled very valuable information in very easy to read and access book.

Drs Shireen and Zahra Kassam, along with registered dietitian Lisa Simon, have succeeded in producing a truly excellent resource in the field of plant-based nutrition. The clinical community has been crying out for this much-needed textbook, which not only details the “whys” of recommending a whole food plant-based (WFPB) diet for our patients but also – and very importantly – the “how”.No stone has been left unturned, with chapter 1 giving a detailed overview of the impact of plant-based dietary patterns on health and disease and the final three chapters dedicated to examining the barriers to following a WFPB diet, actioning this in clinical practice and – finally – the imperative need for us to adopt this way of eating for planetary, as well as individual, health. The intervening chapters follow a system-based approach, with contributions for numerous well-respected experts in the field.I cannot recommend this book highly enough, and am so grateful to the editors and authors for bringing this to our bookshelves. I will return to this time and again in my daily work, and also for general interest’s sake. Thank you.
