There is a new revolution happening in sports as more and more athletes are basing their success on this game-changing combination: health, nutrition, training, recovery, and mindset. Unfortunately, the evidence-based techniques that the expert PhDs, academic institutions, and professional performance staffs follow can be in stark contrast to what many athletes actually practice. When combined with the noise of social media, old-school traditions, and bro-science, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.

Peak is a groundbreaking book exploring the fundamentals of high performance (not the fads), the importance of consistency (not extreme effort), and the value of patience (not rapid transformation). Dr. Marc Bubbs makes deep science easy-to-understand, and with information from leading experts who are influencing the top performers in sports on how to achieve world-class success, he lays out the record-breaking feats of athleticism, and strategies that are rooted in this personalized approach. Dr. Bubbs expertly brings together the worlds of health, nutrition, and exercise, and synthesizes the salient science into actionable guidance. Regardless if you’re trying to improve your physique, propel your endurance, or improve your team’s record, looking at performance through this lens is absolutely critical for lasting success.

Straddles science with applicable info very well
While I’m not a professional athlete, I am a fairly serious recreational athlete just over 30 years old. Year over year I’m increasing my fitness load from cycling, running, lifting weights, snowboarding, hiking, and rock climbing and the marginal benefit that dialing in my diet, sleep, and recovery patterns is increasingly important. I’ve also done everything from put on 30lbs by eating 4,500+ kcal/day to dropping all of that again over a 9 month period. In short, a lot of this information is applicable to me and I have attempted to utilize it before. At the same time, if you read enough fitness stuff in books or online it does feel like all of the info can blur together and sometimes contradict itself. This is where I think this book is the strongest. Without outright saying it, the author applies a sort of Pareto Principle to the information by giving you the science but then telling you where to actually focus your efforts (for example, listing the top three supplements or being honest about the limits that adaptive thermogenesis places on cratering a macro in order to lean out). I bought this book as a kindle edition and I’m already considering buying a paper copy because there are at least 10 areas in the first 25% of this book that I intend to apply to my training. Great great book if you are starting to take your training seriously.

    I love this book.
Everyone who care about their health should read this book. It encompasses far more than training and running.

Honestly – this book could not have been written better
Talk about a consuming book! I have such a hard time putting this thing down. He could not have broken down these chapters any more clearly and organized. Each chapter perfectly leads into the next. I started tabbing info into chapter 3 and now I want to go back, re-read it so that I can absorb the information better – it’s so good I wish he wrote more books 😭I also noticed a review about this book only being for men… which is HIGHLY inaccurate. I started implementing his strategies about 4-5 months back and saw some great improvements in my performance – taking some gold medals in my sport along the way! This is definitely for women too.One thing to note: if you have a very basic understanding of nutrition and athletic performance – this may not be the book for you (at least to start with!). I’m not a nutritionist or a pro level athlete but I’ve dedicated quite a bit of time to consuming info in this industry over the last 10 years to know enough to be dangerous and there were a few sections that were a bit too scientific than my level of understanding. That being said…. he does do a good job and summarizing in layman’s terms and even admits in the book when he’s going down a rabbit hole of scientific info lol.To give credit where it’s due – I learned about this book when Zack Bitter (100 miler run world record holder) mentioned it on joe rogans podcast.

    A must read
If you’re into coaching and nutrition, this is a must have. A lot of us coaches have been struggling with all the info thrown at us in social media. Well this book has a lot of research backing it up.

    Outstanding Resource
Dr. Bubbs does a great job covering a wide variety of topics. He covers each topic with enough depth to do it service, but not too much that it overwhelms you. This is a great starting point in taking the next step in human performance.

This one is a keeper. As someone who works with elite athletes in sports performance, I thought this was a great read filled with lots of evidence-based research.

Great book that dives deep into the importance of nutrition and recovery for athletes and anyone looking to reach their full potential. I’d recommend this to every coach that works with athletes or any personal trainer. There really hasn’t been another book in this field like this, so it’s a must read!

I first borrowed this book from my local library last year. It was so helpful that I read every page with a notebook at my side. I applied much of the content to my own athletic goals and saw a great improvement in my performance. I had to buy it to use as a reference for any future questions or problems I encounter.I highly recommend it!

Vielen Dank Mr. Bubbs!
